Program goals
The Doctorate in Clinical Sciences program trains experts in clinical research who:
- Are recognized at the national and/or international level for their ability to generate medical knowledge in three possible dimensions: individual, institutional, or society.
- Generate scientific production based on ethical principles, relevant for the understanding of human health-disease, care systems, and/or public health.
- Are leaders in prestigious organizations in the application of strategies oriented to reducing inequity in health care and increasing the use of resources based on the best evidence.
Graduate profile
The graduate from this program will be able to:
- Apply search, selection, and analysis strategies of relevant knowledge in their area of expertise, at the expert level, regarding aspects such as disease mechanisms (cause); detection, diagnosis or history of the disease; therapeutic interventions, including medication or drug trials; primary and secondary prevention and health promotion; human behavior; health and epidemiology services, among others.
- Use qualitative and quantitative research methods, as well as statistical tools for the development of scientific research that provides knowledge for regional or national problems in their field of specialty.
- Obtain research results with critical-scientific reasoning, clearly establishing their potential application, as well as each limitation and area of opportunity.
- Transfer knowledge through scientific products, such as articles, patents, or technological developments that allow reducing the gap between valid and relevant scientific knowledge and its application to the patient’s bedside.
- Develop protocols or clinical trials that comply with the current regulations in matters of bioethics, quality, and security, guaranteeing the integrity and dignity of patients and their families, as well as the intellectual property of the discoveries.
Research lines
- Study of pathophysiological mechanisms and drug development in cardiovascular diseases.
- Study of pathophysiological mechanisms and development of diagnostic and therapeutic methods for ophthalmology and visual sciences.
- Study of biological, psychological, and social processes of diseases of the central nervous system and development of regenerative cell therapy.
- Study of pathophysiological mechanisms and drug development in oncological diseases.
- Study of the molecular biology of oxidative damage, inflammation, biomarkers, pharmacology in neonatology, and conditions of IGF-1 deficiency.
Admission requirements
- Present the Admission Test for Graduate Studies (PAEP) or its equivalent in the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) with a minimum score of 600.
- Have a minimum cumulative average of 90 in the previous studies (scale of 0 to 100).
- Proven English proficiency with a minimum TOEFL or ITP score of 600.
- Graduated from any medical specialty.

- Detailed Curriculum vitae, including copies of previous research works, such as publications, patents, and/or conference presentations. It is very important to provide proof or research experience.
- Letter of intent.
- Recommendation letter.
- Birth certificate.
- Approval from the academic faculty.
Graduation requirements
- Comply with the requirements established in the General Academic Policies and Norms, in Article 57.
- Comply with the requirements established in Article 52 Section IV.10 in the General Graduate Academic Regulations of the Tecnológico de Monterrey, Monterrey Campus.
- Obtain a final grade point average of all subjects of the curriculum of at least 80.
- Preparation, in conjunction with your thesis director (or directors), of at least one clinical or translational research project (it may have a strong basic science component), which concludes to the satisfaction of your thesis director and the Evaluation Committee of the Faculty of the Doctoral Program in Clinical Sciences.
- Presentation of thesis and dissertation approved by the corresponding synods.
